| The following are tips, tricks, and ideas submitted by our staff and by our users.
If you have any suggestions to add to the list, please drop us a note via our support page!
Some of these tips assume a more advanced level of user knowledge (and a bit of
familiarity with ClipTrakker), so if you're looking for a basic introduction to using
ClipTrakker, please refer to the ClipTrakker Overview pages.
Learn the many Keyboard Shortcuts
ClipTrakker has numerous keyboard shortcuts to make your life easier; you can
find a listing of them here.
Use ClipTrakker as your Text Scratchpad
ClipTrakker contains a handy text editor, complete with variable tabs, search and
replace, and more! Just select the "File - New Blank
Snapshot" menu and start typing. You can save your text to a .txt file or leave
it as a clipboard snapshot ready for pasting anywhere at a moment's notice. You can
also edit any snapshot that contains text by selecting the "Edit - Edit
Text" menu.
Combine Multiple Clipboard Snapshots
Often you will copy things from 10 different places but later need to paste them
all at once... with ClipTrakker, its easy! Just select the 10 (or whatever number)
snapshots in the order you want them, then select "Edit - Combine
Text" and a new snapshot will be created by combining the selected ones. Once your
new combined snapshot is ready you can edit it further (see the tip above) or restore it
to the clipboard and paste it wherever you wish as one big text block.
Move Snapshots Between Pages with Ease
You can organize your snapshots by moving them to other pages within ClipTrakker
quickly by dragging and dropping them on the tab of the destination page... there's no
need to activate the destination page. If you do want to activate the
destination page, you can just hover (while dragging) over the tab for a second or two,
and the page with automatically flip to the front for you.
Drag and Drop URLs from ClipTrakker
When browsing the web you can right-click on links and select "Copy",
which will automatically store a snapshot of the link in ClipTrakker. When you want
to actually visit the link, drag it from ClipTrakker and drop it on your web browser: your
browser will jump to the link. It's a great way to keep track of a number of links
you want to visit without the formality of adding them to your favorites list! (You
must have "All Formats" selected in the Clipboard History dropdown under
View-Options for this to work).
Keep File Lists in ClipTrakker
If you have a set of files that you work with a lot (such as a set of files you
take back and forth between home and work) ClipTrakker can snapshot that list of filenames
from the Windows Explorer. To do this, select the files and select Copy in the
Windows Explorer. As long as the files remain in their original location, you can
restore that snapshot to the clipboard and Paste the files in the Explorer any time you
need to (like to a floppy disk for backup). (You must have "All
Formats" selected in the Clipboard History dropdown under View-Options for this to
work).
Exchanging Clipboard Snapshots with Others
You can exchange clipboard snapshots with friends and co-workers by exporting them
(File/Export) to disk or emailing them (File/SendTo). The recipient simply
double-clicks the snapshots (which are saved in a .cts file) to import them to a
ClipTrakker page of their own.
Keeping ClipTrakker from Accidentally sliding out on a Screen Edge
If you like the auto-hide tray feature, but hate having it slide out when you
move the mouse to that screen edge for other reasons, turn on "only unhide when CTRL
is pressed" under View/Options. When this is enabled the auto-hidden tray
window will only slide out for the mouse if you are pressing the CTRL key as well.
This does not change your hotkey or the tray icon behavior.
